Immigrants’ children quickly and easily master their English language, while Russian or Ukrainian, for many of them, is as difficult to understand, as English is for the older generation. This creates a language barrier – a serious obstacle to normal communication and emotional closeness. If children don’t know the language of their parents well, their communication is not much different in its deepness and complexity from the communication between an American and a newly arrived immigrant. They cannot have close communication neither in English nor in Russian. As a result, the process of spiritual upbringing is significantly hindered since it is not possible without discussions, stories and conversations on different complex topics, as well as without discussing things that are happening, the life around us.
